Minor in Music

The minor in music is designed for students in another major field who wish to add to their experience and knowledge of music. Through introductory courses in music theory, music history, and performance, the minor develops students’ scholarship through coursework that provides a historical context as well as experience in music performance. The following requirements must be fulfilled: 18 credits, including one 3-credit required course and 15 credits in elective courses.

5 to 6 credits in courses taken from among the CMUS 1100, CMUS 2100, and CMUS 3100 course groupings; only one course in the CMUS 1100 grouping may be counted toward this requirement.
Remaining elective credits are taken in any Music (CMUS) courses, including academic, performance study, and ensemble courses.

All students in the minor program are expected to attend departmental lectures, master classes, and concerts, as appropriate.
